I did an experiment with 'Applying Love' to seeds last year. I wanted to see whether love would effect the way the seeds germinated. I used wheat seeds. I soaked two tubs of 25 seeds each, and left them overnight. Next day I chose the right hand tub to apply love to.
I thought loving thoughts, and said encouraging things for a few moments every day. I left the other one alone, as a control.
After a day the unloved seeds were sprouting normally, while the loved seeds didn't show much sign of doing anything! (Not what I expected at all.) I kept thinking and saying loving things to the seeds on the right in the picture every day. I did try to generate a feeling of love but it was hard at first, since I was feeling a bit unsure of the effects my 'love' was having! However, over the next couple of days, the loved seeds started to sprout vigorously, and overtook the others. In particular the root systems, clearly visible in the water, were growing incredibly fast and reaching out to cover the whole of the tub base. The untreated seeds' roots were much less developed. I counted the germinating seeds, and there were 9 in the untreated seeds, and 12 in the loved seeds.
After about a week, the shoots were getting quite long. I measured them
and the loved seeds' longest shoot was 26 cm.long. The unloved seeds' longest shoot was only 22 cm. long.
The interesting part of this experiment was the fact the love seemed to delay the germinating process - holding it up at first. Were the seeds reorganising themselves to get greater growth? I don't know, but as a metaphor for life, and the accomplishment of our goals, I think it's an amazing lesson! I read the June Cygnus Review the other day and found a report on a similar experiment with seeds. The interesting thing is the seeds they chose to encourage also took longer to sprout at first, but then made up for it and grew bigger and better than the others! It seems the intervention of love or positive encouragement alters the root system - as roots grow stronger, perhaps they can reach out further and give the plant a better source of nutrients!
At the beginning of any project, while it's in its embryonic, or seed, state, if we send love and positive thoughts to it, we are setting in motion forces that will support our success. If you're a natural worrier, you're doing the exact opposite as you contemplate a future project with fear! Worrying is already sabotaging the possible successes you could enjoY! If a little love, encouragement and appreciation can have a dramatic effect on the most basic of Nature's processes - the germinating of a seed - what can it do for our lives?
The second successful experiment used brown lentils. I put some in a glass jar, added water and divided the lentils roughly down the middle. I chose to love the seeds on the left ('l' stands for 'Loved'!) I added water to the jar and focused only on the seeds to the left of the dividing line, thinking as many positive things about them as I could. I did the same once a day for the next 2 days, so they got 3 treatments in all. I stopped when I could see the lentils starting to sprout. The reason I stopped was that again, as in the wheatsprout experiment, it was the 'unloved' seeds that showed the first signs of sprouting! The loved seeds looked very disappointing and I forgot about them for a couple of days. When I noticed the seeds looked dry I added some water.
My attention was drawn to the jar a couple of days later by the amazing sight of the sprouts - 8 of them measured from 7 to 10 centimetres tall, and of those 8, 7 of those were on the 'loved' side! In total, 25 lentils sprouted, 13 on the loved side, 12 on the unloved. The tallest sprouts on the loved side measured 7, 7.5, 8, 8, 9.5 and 10 cm. tall. There were only three sprouts measureable on the unloved side, 9 cm, 5 cm and 2.5. I hope you can see from the pictures that the seeds on the left have sprouted much more - a huge difference that seems to be purely due to a little bit of love and admiration!
