(Continued from previous page).Not every problem resolves itself quickly.Particularly for anyone learning it on their own, you may come up against your own body's 'refusal' to change. Gary calls this reversal, because in this state the body tests 'strong' for 'I want to keep this (name of your problem here) condition' and weak for 'I want to be free of this (name of problem) condition.' That means your energy system is effectively 'locked' and will not respond to your tapping! (If you suffer any chronic condition, whether that's a health issue or an addiction, your energy system is almost certainly 'reversed' and will test strong to 'I want to keep this (condition)' and weak to 'I want to stop this (condition).' (See Muscle testing; the testing is clearly demonstrated on the Basic Course DVDs.)
Often people suffering reversal have resorted to secondary coping behaviour, such as obsessive habits or addictions, to cope with the stress. The obsession/habit/addiction is an essential part of your body's coping mechanism and will not lend itself to change without a determined application of the Set-Up statement.
The set-up statement is: 'Even though I have this (feeling - anxiety, fear, butterflies in my stomach etc) I deeply and completely accept myself.' Target the FEELING of unease or anxiety that triggers the obsessive/habitual behaviour, rather than the behaviour itself. For instance, you focus on the feeling or anxiety, or boredom, or loneliness that precedes or triggers the urge to smoke, eat, etc. You want EFT to work on the disruption to your energy system, not the coping behaviour triggered by the disruption.
Once you've got the wording right, you then need to say the set-up in the right way - with a bit of energy or feeling; 'I DEEPLY and COMPLETELY accept myself'.
Saying a set-up statement with some energy gets the attention of your subconscious mind; by enrolling the resources of the bodymind in the process, you're stepping out of the 'powerless' state which requires the support of your addiction. So to convince your subconscious you no longer want the old habits of reacting to stress and anxiety indirectly via illness or addiction, you need to 1. Word the set-up to target the feeling, and 2. Put some energy and feeling into it!
You can work on your friends, pets, and family; and even use surrogate EFT to help others who can't do it for themselves. There are tips for using EFT given each week in the free newsletter. It's a wonderful technique and you can have lots of fun with it!
Once you're familiar with the tapping points, however, you might like to try a new way to use them I'm developing. The Automatic EFT method is a new concept; it works by 'defusing' the most basic limiting beliefs present within our systems - things like 'I'm not worthy' or 'I'm not loved' which lead to a fundamental lack of confidence and self-esteem. I believe it could well be the easiest and most powerful way of using meridian tapping to remove the doubts which can sabotage affirmations - it clears out the 'bedrock' of your belief systems.
