If, like me, you thought dowsing was something only a few special people with the Gift could do, think again! We can all do it, because
dowsing or divining are simply mental skills, in which we ask our higher self a specific yes/no question, and receive the answer in some form. This three stage techniqe can be learned and practised
just like with any other skill. If you're using a pendulum, this is the procedure.
Frame your question so there is only a 'yes' or 'no' answer.
Ask the question, mentally or out loud, as you hold the pendulum (which can be anything, e.g. a key, on a chain or string)
Receive the answer. Simple!
The first time you dowse, you need to establish what response means 'yes' and what means 'no'.
We can either a) just ask, or b) programme our response.
While swinging the pendulum gently back and forwards, ask out loud for a 'yes' response. Wait for the motion to change - usually into a circular swing. The direction of the swing is important, so pay attention! Then do the same, asking for 'no'. These are your basic responses. You can repeat this a couple of times to get the hang of it and you'll see the direction of the swing each time in response to 'yes' and 'no' is consistent.
Say out loud with confidence, while swinging the pendulum in a clockwise direction, "This is my yes response". Then swing the pendulum anti-clockwise and say "This is my No response." That's the assertive way to do it! (I just asked!)
What to dowse for!
The hard part - think of things to dowse for! You can search for lost objects, asking "Is the (object) in this room? Is it in the bedroom/garden" etc. When you get a positive response, you can start narrowing the search. (Is it on the floor etc.)
You can also dowse for the value of things. The easiest way to do this, I find, is using charts. I make my own, depending on what I want to dowse for. Write numbers round a semi-circle, or circle, and the pendulum will swing over one as you ask your question. It doesn't matter too much how accurate the divisions are, your higher self knows what your intention is and responds immediately and very definitely! I hold the pendulum still in the centre of the baseline, and the swing goes towards one of the measurements - that's my reading! I have to say I've yet to have any success using this method for lottery numbers, but it's interesing to dowse levels of consciousness for people you know, or figures from history.
To dowse for levels of Life Force - in fruit or vegetables when shopping, for instance (try fresh organic versus non-organic), or water (tap water versus spring water). Decide on a scale, say, 1-10, and then either make a statement 'This (apple) has a maximum life-force level of 1' then continue up towards 10 till you get a 'yes'. Dowsing is not 100% reliable, but the times it's not seem to be when I'm asking for information just out of curiosity, and when there's no real reason for me to know something, and it doesn't matter to me. Also, when I'm tired I don't always get good results.
After a couple of tries to get the feel of them, rods are easy to use! I have a pair made of a wire coathanger - (they now have lovely hairline spirals all along them, and the metal has twisted. I believe this is as a result of the energy flowing along them when I dowse.)
Especially when looking for things (underground streams, energy leys etc)
dowsing rods are more useful than pendulums. Again, the first time you use them, you need to establish the responses.
Hold the rods straight ahead of you - this is the search position. Then say out loud, while tipping the rods slightly so they swing open:"This is the response when I find a stream or energy ley." Then you can programme for energy vortexes, crossing the rods and saying "This is my response for energy vortexes or single objects." When the rods open out they're showing you the direction of flow of a stream or energy ley. You can also ask for one rod to point the direction to the nearest intersecting stream/energy ley, which saves you time finding energy vortexes (useful for environmental clearing).
Hold the rods straight out ahead of you, and walk slowly towards whatever area you are searching, asking your question out loud or mentally. You can be very specific; for instance, you could ask "Show me any buildings from the 12th century" if you're doing an archeological search. Or, if you're searching for an underground stream, you could say "Give me the signal when my right toe is right above the stream".
This term refers to the search for water. Hazel twigs have long been used, and the reaction seems to be very dramatic, without the need for programming, as the twig twists up quite violently towards the diviner when water is detected. Water divining is very accurate, and is used by at least one charity in Honduras to find water sources for wells in villages currently without a supply. (It is also the only form of dowsing that was allowed to continue during the witch-hunts of the Reformation!)
Whatever method you use, dowsing is a way of amplifying our bodies' natural response.(For more on this, see Power vs Force, on the Recommended Books page.) But we can also programme our bodies to give us a direct yes/no answer!
PROGRAMMING YOUR BODY
You can programme your arms to be pushed apart or drawn together, using them instead of dowsing rods. Or you can use a whole-body response. Ask for a 'Yes' and 'No' response, and stand still, paying attention to the feelings in your body each time. (I am pulled forward for yes, and pushed backwards for no - makes sense!)
This is the ultimate process, in which you ask questions and receive answers without any external instruments at all! A totally mental process, in which you ask the question and the answer is received mentally, usually as an image, but sometimes as impressions or feelings. My first experience of using this was when I asked for the security pin number to a friend's car radio - she'd forgotten it. I closed my eyes and asked for the correct numbers. I immediately saw the numbers exactly as they looked on the LCD display - I tapped them in to the radio, and they were right! I was amazed how effortless and quick it was! Remote dowsing has been the subject of years of study in the former Soviet Union during the Cold War, and is used by the M.O.D. and to survey sensitive buildings and sites, such as defence installations and embassies.
So there you have it - have a clear idea of what you're looking for, and what your responses are going to be before you start, and you will soon be dowsing confidently and having alot of fun!
Check out local dowsing groups (see links page) if you want to get support and encouragement, and learn from more experienced dowsers.
